Saidi Dance
Saidi dance or Raqs Assaya originated in Southern Egypt. Originally, the dance was performed by men only and was modeled after the Tahtib, a men’s game using bamboo sticks. Saidi is currently a very popular dance, performed by men and women at festive events, such as weddings. Saidi music uses the mizmar, nay, rebaba, and tabla. A long galabaya (dress) is worn by both men and women.
