"Just want to say thanks to Mellilah and Waid's for having my Anwaar girls and for putting on
the best restaurant venue! There is a big space to dance in, fun lighting, a place to get ready
(that doesn't double as food storage or a bathroom!), the food and drinks,
environment and even service was great, Mellilah was on top of things, and the cover charge is
a good deal for the show you get. We'd do it again -performing (I'll jump back on public stages
again soon, gang) as well as to see others. It's great! Bravo! "

dance.)

"The monthly Jewels show is a great opportunity to see some spectacular local dancers
showcase things you may have never seen them do before, and you can experience a variety of
other world dances and music that you may have never even considered. Last month the
audience got to join in the dancing with my Brazilian samba group, and we sure did turn up the
heat in that joint. (The samba dancers were very impressed by how quickly the bellydancers
picked up the moves!) Next week, I'm really looking forward to seeing the
Afro-Caribbean dancer.

Waid's is a fabulous venue for this sort of thing -- they serve excellent Haitian food, offer a full
bar, and present a casual, interactive layout centered on a very nice (although rather poorly lit)
dance floor. The service is good, and there's plenty of parking in the neighborhood. Our two
lovely hostesses for the show and the staff of the restaurant are
super-courteous to the performers and patrons. Even if you arrive alone, you'll quickly find
yourself amongst friends. Everyone I've talked to who has performed there in the past has
gushed about how much they enjoyed it --and when the performers are having a good time,
you can be sure the audience is going to feel it.

I know plenty of you out there have been to previous Waid's shows, so it would be great to
hear your perspective as well. I for one am a huge fan. It's a great addition to the treasure
chest of all the fun events we have in our region!"

Wow, I just got home from Waid's, where I saw "Jewels of Egypt". The turnout was
light for the first night, and there were some technical difficulties, but it
was a great show, and I am looking forward to future shows. Mellilah and Najla
each did wonderful cabaret sets, and Najla did an improvisational drum solo with
Anthony on doumbek. It was great to hear him playing riffs that I am trying to
learn! All else paled, however, to the set by Elizabeth Dennis. She took me to
another world! Her dancing was captivating and exquisite with elements from many
different genres, and her music was mysterious, luscious, and very entertaining.
I had to leave when the open dancing started, but I felt that I had gotten more
than a great night's worth. Thank you Mellilah and Caliana for establishing this new venue
and putting together a great show.
